Child-friendly court roadmap handout

Has anyone built a one-page, child-friendly explainer for the court steps — TPR, ICPC, subsidy, and finalization — that you’re willing to share? I piloted a two-page ‘What Happens Next’ last week in Pierce County that kids liked, but it skimps on the 30-day appeal window and post-adoption contact agreements, and I’d love language that stays honest without scaring them.

, this drives me nuts too — I’ve had luck with a single horizontal timeline and, for the “30-day appeal window,” a pause icon plus plain text: “Adults may review the judge’s decision; your day-to-day stays the same.” For “post-adoption contact agreements,” I use a simple yes/sometimes/no box labeled “Keeping in touch plan,” and push details to a tiny QR so the one-pager stays calm. I can share my PDF and Canva file — did your Pierce County pilot allow a QR on the one-pager?

Building on @b_waters52, I add two small boxes labeled ‘Your part’ and ‘Adult part’ and use kid-safe lines like: ‘Adults can ask the court to double-check within 30 days; it’s a pause, not a reset,’ and for contact: ‘Staying in touch is a plan adults write with your ideas; it can change later if everyone agrees.’ Want me to share the exact handout text?
